Analysis and prediction software like this one have a lot of potential to transform the rate of new discoveries and progress. Time is the biggest bottleneck in human advancement, and software like this can speed it up.

This is an interesting extension of the work on TRIZ by Genrich Altschuller. He studied thousands of Russian patents looking for the approaches inventors had used to come up with patentable solutions to problems. He distilled from the thousands of patents about 40 of what he called "problems". For him a "problem" was a conflict between two fundamental forces. He then looked at the actual patent descriptions and found (coincidentally) about 40 "approaches" which were commonly used to resolve each pair of force conflicts. This 40 x 40 matrix of conflict pairs with suggested approaches can lead a knowledgeable researcher very quickly to some good starter ideas. Chematica is partly a "brute force" way getting at the same thing. Maybe someone can (or already has) distill some rules from this huge data base. Or maybe we just no longer need to look for the rules...
