It almost sounds like we need to build some intelligence into our own skulls in more ways than one.

perhaps if you could link such a pressure sensor to an automatic mechanism to remove pressure on the brain you wouldn't be so dependent on medical services turning up. Could you somehow make part of your skull breathable as needed for example or (once the cause of the pressure is better understood we could go after that cause)? Also could we make an iGem pressure sensor that would be long lasting instead of an electronic implantable sensor?

Right, a design I'd like to see would be a miniaturized, portable chip reader that a patient can carry with them and place on the head for readings. If data is over threshold, the reader would automatically trigger the patient's smart phone, which would have an app that autodials a 24-hour telemedicine service and uploads the data. (There are some Bluetooth transmission limitations to be dealt with.)

Call me hypochondriac head, but I'd actually like one of these implants. It could remotely alert the emergency services when any delay is critical?

"...power to implanted chips...is delivered from a reader by inductive coupling to a small coil in the chip, with the energy stored in a capacitor."

Dear Amara, didn't you post an article here weeks ago about implanted sensors powered by cerebrospinal fluid?
