For those of us who are not astrophysics PhD could you actually give use the size in miles/kilometers of the radius. Saying 5.5 times the Schwartzchild radius is not particularly revealing

wow! I’m surprised to find someone else here who resists the sophisms “floating” around. But wait, don’t disappoint me already, remember this is a very big thing, they have no idea, or don’t tell, what’s going on there. Mass is meaningless to conclude what you did, think of charges inside a closed surface.

Impressive. This is the first solid research about the topic of Black Holes, since it is finally based on observation instead of speculations. I have always been skeptical about the existence of Black Holes, but if they can also determine the mass of the Black Hole in the center of M87 independently from the measurement of the event horizon, then there can be no doubt anymore.

Why?! Einstein was an idiot! If you are perspicacious enough to carry his block world all the way to ultimate logical entailment you’d be surprised to see a duality of the soul conclusion! Quite fitting for one who alludes to the heavenly lack of a Vegas but hardly to any self-respecting scientist, specially nowadays. Descartes would certainly be proud though. :-D

Wow, that’s some hard hitting research. I’m all for Einstein being right about general relativity, but unless some radically new data is presented by this continued study I do not see it clicking with quantum physics. Gravity is just too weak on those scales.
