An alleged "teacher" at an alleged "Math and Science" night told us and our children, not once, not twice, but three times that a triangle is a three dimensional object. Then he pointed to the three sides. He also said that a line was a two dimensional object. Another "teacher" insisted that rats and mice don't have skeletons. I could go on, but unless and until we realize that since socialism and unions do not foster excellence anywhere, they're not going to do so in "education" either, we're not going to do any better than we have.

Its hardly a new idea, but is a scientific approach to demonstrate the failure educational systems that are in the market right now. The teachers in most institutions (fortunate in not all of them) think they are the owners of the knowledge.
One of the first educators who worked in this topic was Pestalozzi, which his findings were applied to schools in Switzerland by 1800.
Thanks to Dr. Granger to point with data what many people have been discussing for years.

Great, and hardly a new idea.
Try reading John Gatto Taylor's lovely little work "Dumbing us down" - a short and very powerful read.
