I’m down on genetic programming. Evolution breeds survivors and I don’t want to worry about my pc deciding it doesn’t want to be turned off. Handcrafted AI with rigid rule based overrides to keep it under control seems like the way to go.

There are examples of life that require the intervention of other lifeforms in order to replicate. One such example would be flowering plants, which rely absolutely on pollinating insects. So why not say software self-replicates with the help of humans?

1) We all know it’s hardly 1945 when *computation* started (if such a specific beginning would be possible to pinpoint in principle).
2) There is nothing “self-replicating” in software yet. Humans design it, and they choose to replicate it or not. The only true self-replicating code that currently exists on Earth is the genetic code.
