To GaterAllin: Take your head out of your ass and be a bit more compassionate for human beings that truly have a need for this mobility devise to lead a normal life with family and friends. I'm 45 years old, a paraplegic from a tree accident, and I would give anything to walk again. You put yourself in my shoes and you will think twice about making any comments other than being thankful that you are alive!

As these devices evolve they will be very useful for the elderly. Both my parents have mobility issues. I'm torn between encouraging them to walk, and realizing how difficult it is for them. I know that the more they stay active, the better their twilight years can be. It's so easy to be seduced into laying in bed all day.

This isn't for people in walkers. It's for complete paraplegics, who are confined to wheelchairs. The walker is for balance only. The benefits of this device are numerous--anyone confined to a wheelchair is destined for a host of physiological problems. Getting them vertical and moving will reduce their healthcare costs and improve their quality and length of life.

This is a HUGE "upgrade". Sorry you can't see past your derision to find some empathy.

To GaterAllin It's kinda sad when all you can see with a life changing device is war and pestilence. You must be a fun person to be with. Who said anything about military use except you?

so all the grandmas using bright yellow tennis balls on the end of their walkers can look forward to this slight upgrade?

When I see these advancements I always wonder is the development cycle looking at helping the injured as this example clearly shows..... or is the real funding for such development used for the military? I can see taking a much larger weapon on the ground with more ammo with one of these support walkers btw. Lets blow up and injure more people, then we can sell them our walkers again when they are out of the military... win/win, they cover both sides of the coin...... maybe a viscous cycle gets created if you don't stand back far enough to see both the good and bad of military use funding for tech.
