Become a virtual filmmaker

Researchers at Abertay University in the UK have developed a new motion controller that uses electromagnetic sensors to track its 3D position. The location is then mapped in real time to a virtual video camera on a screen. By moving the controller around, the camera moves around the scene like a real camera on a rig or it can be fixed to a virtual tripod.

The team thinks the technology will be useful in education, to visualize computer models from various perspectives. For example, the device could let you fly through a car’s engine to take a close look at its internal mechanism. It could also be popular among video game enthusiasts.
