We live in an age of converging promise and risk. Technological development is accelerating and creating great promise for a better future, but at the same time grave risks are multiplying at an unprecedented rate. Can a combination of emerging technologies, positive values and the scientific method help us achieve radical positive change?

This meetup is a joint event between The Zeitgeist Movement (TZM) UK, London Futurists, and the Social Futurist Forum. There will be two speakers, plus plenty of opportunity for questions and comments from the audience.

The presentations:

1: The Socio-Techno Tool Kit for a Sustainable Future.

James Phillips will analyse our current scientific capability, trends in the advancement of technology, and changing trends in cultural values.

He will be discussing these trends and their social impact as well as presenting the option of using these new advancements and a technological approach to problem solving to better human existence locally, nationally, and globally.

2: Social Futurism and The Zeitgeist Movement.

Amon Twyman will talk about the relationship between convergent risk and technological development wedded to social justice concerns. He will argue that rational and compassionate use of technology, and political policy driven by social justice values wedded to the scientific method, not only underlies TZM but characterises a broader “Social Futurist” idea that could potentially bring many like-minded groups together in cooperation.

The speakers:

James Phillips is the founder of TZME, a global educational platform for The Zeitgeist Movement and is currently giving presentations and workshops regarding the ‘Natural Law Resource Based Economic Model’ in numerous schools in and around the London area.

Amon Twyman is the founder of the WAVE research instituteand associated Zero State movement, in addition to being a co-founder of the UK Transhumanist Association (now Humanity+ UK). He is a philosopher with a background in cognitive science, and a member of The Zeitgeist Movement.

There will be a short break between the presentations. A Q&A and break-out discussion will follow at the end of the event.
