Ray Kurzweil was looking for an investment in a company he was planning, on reverse-engineering the brain. Page invited him to do it at Google instead.

At Google I/O he said we’ll be 3D printing clothing by 2020, and hopes to achieve “functional immortality” by uploading his consciousness to a computer.

He said supercomputers provide the processing power to match the calculations the brain makes each second. His team is trying to model hierarchical ideas.

Current search technology “is not fully modeling the ideas you have when you write,” he said. “That’s what we’d like to understand. You’d be able to dialog with your search engine, give it complex tasks and interact with it the way you would with a human.” […]
