I love it! Driving while human ticket! Well ah, I really wasn't myself that time. As someone who has driven about one million miles in my life time( or as one of my friends used to say. X number of times around the world!), I echo your statement! Then again with a killer ap, uploaded into an augmented brain (no pun intended) you could really shred some tires!!!!

Driving manually would then be an impairment just like driving drunk is now. Humans are not that great at driving as is apparent if you drive often. Hurdling down the road manually in a 4000 pound car filled with a highly combustible liquid traveling at 70 mph next to a school bus full of children, maybe a line of cars filled with families, next to someone who didn't get enough sleep, someone else who is on the phone, and maybe a tanker full of some unknown liquid really is not a scenario I would like to play out any more times than necessary. Throw in emotions, poor road conditions, alcohol, bad vision, and other possibilities such as spilling a hot beverage, mechanical failures, and heart failure/seizures and I'd say some day it will be an entertaining story to tell our grand kids about how we used to drive manually.

Maybe to retain that freedom to drive manually in such a world where it is not necessary would be practical if the drivers test was much more difficult and if the car had other safety systems designed to take over in the case of driver failure.

This won't likely be a problem. Sensors on google's self-driving car can see the road and obstacles including people and other cars and drive around them. The net connection would help with things like avoiding congestion and other matters of efficiency but not your overall safety.

Even if that method fails to catch on cars will obviously have a way of simply slowing to a stop to pull off the road safely just like you would have to do manually if you get a flat, run out of fuel, or run into any of the other problems that already afflict cars.

Can't wait until they become so effective at what they do that they rarely have accidents. Some bureaucrat will inevitably have the idea of banning humans from driving in order to keep us all "safe." Ugh.

The traffic court judge just won't want to believe that a hacker made you speed through the school zone.
