“Rape the moon/the rest of Solar System?”
Ha ha.
Sooner or later we have to mine away all of the solar system.
All matters in the solar system will be rearranged (into supercomputers, like Hans Moravec’s concept of a “cyber-ized cosmos”, and probably some habitats like that Stanford Torus in the video for MOSHs and near-MOSHs).
It is only a matter of time.

I loved the video. I was inspired. I wonder if they are hiring?

Maybe it was just me … but this intro/video seemed to make it clear that they don’t care about astronomy or the sciecne and excitement side of exploring the universe, but how to make profits and cash in on getting to this first… We would rape and pillage the resources on earth, but more money out in space kinda vibe… anyhow… I am sure they have to prove to potential investors that they turn a profit and big profits are to be made…. but part of the intro was poorly done for me personally to get excited about this company and their vision.

“…but how to make profits and cash in on getting to this first…”
Is not that the most effective drive/source of incentive for exploring space?
Everyone will be cashing in.
“… but part of the intro was poorly done for me personally to get excited about this company and their vision.”
I agree, looked like a cheesy video game ad.

Matt’s comment is a kind of right wing tea party wet dream.
The paranoids of the right actually have sci/fi writers who
invent Marxist environmental fanatics of the near future who
will stop a nothing TO SABATOGE THE MINING OF THE MOON
or prevent capture of asteroids for near-earth orbit in order to preserve their pristine purity & blah blah blah.

Are you fucking serious? Is that a real question? And the moon is not an asteroid. It does contain a large amount of frozen water though making it a great option for a refueling station, making deep space exploration a lot more possible

will we rape the moon like we are the earth or will we leave it safe and clean for the future?
