After all, what are drugs meant to treat various psychological conditions like depression and schizophrenia, if not "life-enhancing" drugs? (granted that not all of them work perfectly at this stage of technology, but speaking only of the intent, not the problems). There's lots of potential profit in curing disease, as well as things like age-related illnesses. Individual pharmaceutical companies may wish to be able slow down progress so that their products will have a longer useful life span, but in the end it will be about as successful as King Canute ordering the sea to retreat. My hope is that life preserving drug therapy and stem cell therapy becomes free or near free, while the money is made off the life enhancing therapies. Soon we'll be seeing actual robotic nanotechnology and then self-replicating capacities will be introduced shortly thereafter. I just hope breakthroughs such as this won't be supressed or dismissed.
