DESIGN East: The Center of the Engineering Universe

September 11, 2012

There might be a new kid on the block, but the annual Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) will be the sturdy foundations on which the success of DESIGN East 2012 will be built.

DESIGN East expands on last year’s successful innovation of adding several co-located and complementary events alongside the traditional fall Embedded Systems Conference in Boston.

ESC Boston will remain the largest, most complete technical conference and exhibition for engineers, designers and developers on the East Coast. It offers you a range of hands-on and classroom education experiences from fundamental skills in embedded design to the latest and most challenging issues. Our presenters come from the first rank of industry developers and training professionals, selected for their proven results on in-class evaluations.

In addition to ESC Boston — the industry’s premier gathering of embedded systems designers, educators and vendors—this year we bring you:

Android Summit – classes providing the knowledge and skills to design Android into embedded devices: from embedded software design and apps development, to installing and using Android on real embedded hardware.

The Android™ Certificate Program – a series of courses, beginning with self-paced web study and culminating with the Embedded Android Workshop, will take embedded systems developers from zero to installing and using Android on real embedded hardware. Students who complete all courses in the curriculum earn a certificate as evidence of their work.

DesignMED – designers and developers of medical electronic devices will have the chance to network with experts, get their questions answered, explore a medical design exhibit area, and attend sessions covering medical electronics design and regulatory issues.

LED Summit – exploring the technology design aspects of high-brightness LEDs, principally in lighting and illumination to provide education from the most forward-thinking minds in electronics LED design, and new partnership opportunities for the entire LED food chain.

Sensors in Design – from the fabrication of smart sensors to the use of cloud sensor networks for energy monitoring and everything in between, the conference offers a broad educational experience for those looking to gain a greater understanding of the design, manufacture and application of sensors.

This all adds up to well over 120 tutorials and conference sessions in 21 tracks, along side two thought-provoking keynotes.

The days will start early with Shop Talk discussion groups at 7:00am and conference sessions at 8:00am.  Theater sessions on the show floor will provide everything from a debate of “Will Embedded Programming be Dead in 2030?” to a Gadget Freak DIY Lab, and from a discussion on The Internet of Things to our own form of Bingo!  The Theater will also be the venue for several of our popular teardowns which take an in-depth look at the electronics inside of some interesting devices.  Additionally, there will be a number of free sponsored training sessions to provide solutions to specific design challenges.
