September 9, 2010
Dmitriy Tseliakhovich is a graduate student at Caltech finishing his doctoral degree in astrophysics. His major passion in life is exploration of space and his life goal is to open space for large-scale commercial, social and scientific exploration.
Dmitriy has more than nine years of research experience in physics, cosmology, and more recently, space engineering. He holds an M.Sc. degree in theoretical physics from Carleton University, where he worked on predictions for dark matter observations at the Large Hadron Collider. His current interests and research are focused on a number of space-related subjects: the general theory of relativity, exobiology and extrasolar planets, the nature of dark energy and dark matter, matter-antimatter annihilation engines, novel means of space propulsion, space medicine, and the effects of space environment on human bodies.
In 2010, Dmitriy founded Escape Dynamics LLC with the goal of developing a revolutionary space launch system based on the concept of external propulsion. The space launch system currently developed by Escape Dynamics has a unique potential to drop the cost of space access by more than an order of magnitude and finally open space for medium- and small-size businesses. During the development of Escape Dynamics, Dmitriy secured funding for the company, assembled a large network of industrial and academic partners, built an ambitious team of expansive thinkers, and started an active collaboration with the research group of Professor Harry Atwater at Caltech, securing the lab for prototype development.
In Summer 2010, Dmitriy graduated from Singularity University (SU), a revolutionary postgraduate institution founded by Peter Diamandis and Ray Kurzweil that studies exponentially growing technologies and their impact on the world at large. SU is a vibrant community of young leaders and expansive thinkers passionate about solving the grand challenges facing mankind today. Dmitriy continues his involvement with SU both through Escape Dynamics and as an advisor to the Academics Committee of SU.
