Embedded Vision Summit West

March 25, 2014

The Embedded Vision Summit West 2014 is a full day of “how-to” presentations, product and technology demos, and inspiring and insightful talks by industry leaders in one of the hottest areas of innovation today—embedded vision—“machines that see and understand.” Organized by leaders in embedded vision technology, the Summit serves as a technical educational forum for engineers interested in incorporating visual intelligence into electronic systems and software.

The Embedded Vision Summit West 2014 will:

  • Provide engaging, high-quality technical presentations that will inspire you to create new products that use embedded vision technology
  • Offer practical know-how to help you incorporate vision capabilities into your designs
  • Provide opportunities to meet and talk with leading embedded vision technology suppliers and technologists, and see exciting demos of some of the latest technology

Embedded Vision Summits are highly rated for content and value—attendees have given them an 8.6 on a scale of 10. This year will be bigger and better! To find out what goes on at an Embedded Vision Summit, visit the archives of previous events here on the Alliance website (Embedded Vision Summit Boston 2012Embedded Vision Summit San Jose 2013, and Embedded Vision Summit East 2013).

Program Highlights

Morning Keynote Speaker: Yann LeCun of Facebook and New York University

Yann LeCun is Director of AI Research at Facebook and Silver Professor of Data Science, Computer Science, Neural Science, and Electrical Engineering at New York University, affiliated with the NYU Center for Data Science, the Courant Institute of Mathematical Science, the Center for Neural Science, and the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He received the Electrical Engineer Diploma from Ecole Supérieure d’Ingénieurs en Electrotechnique et Electronique (ESIEE), Paris in 1983, and a PhD in Computer Science from Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris) in 1987.

Afternoon Keynote Speaker: Nathaniel Fairfield of Google

Nathaniel Fairfield is a technical lead on Google’s self-driving car team. He works on special projects, and led the engineering effort behind the “Self Driving Car Test: Steve Mahan” video on YouTube. Dr. Fairfield received his PhD from the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute where he worked on robots that explore and map complex 3D environments, like flooded caves in Mexico. Before that, he worked at Bluefin Robotics, in Cambridge Massachusetts, building robots that map the ocean floor..

Co-located with Augmented World Expo

This year’s Summit is co-located with the Augmented World Expo. Augmented World Expo, now in its fifth year, is the world’s largest event featuring Augmented Reality, Wearable Computing, and the Internet of Things. AWE 2014 is a three-day event, beginning on Tuesday, May 27, and features 100 talks in 3 conference tracks and 200 demos in the Expo.

Summit attendees may participate in AWE at a special discount:

  • $20 for an AWE Exhibits-Only Pass (80% discount!): experience and interact with 200 demos of the latest innovations in the Augmented World. (Just add the AWE Exhibits-Only Pass to your registration for the Embedded Vision Summit.)

Alliance Membership

Founded in 2011 and led by BDTI, the Embedded Vision Alliance is an industry collaboration to transform the electronics industry with products that are more intelligent and aware of their environments. It is a membership-based entity dedicated to inspiring and empowering system designers to use embedded vision technology. A key means of achieving this is providing design engineers with the practical information that they need in order to effectively incorporate embedded vision technology in their designs.

About the Organizers

The General Chairman of the Embedded Vision Summit West is Jeff Bier, founder of the Embedded Vision Alliance and president and co-founder of BDTI. The Program Chairman is Goksel Dedeoglu, Founder and Lab Director at PercepTonic.

Hands-on Workshops

On Wednesday, May 28, 2014, Embedded Vision Alliance member companies will present workshops exploring hardware and software for various embedded vision implementations. These workshops are an excellent starting point for vision application developers interested in exploring a wide range of embedded vision applications.

These hands-on workshops will provide you with in-depth tutorials on the basics of designing systems and applications that incorporate computer vision techniques. Taught by embedded vision experts from Alliance member companies, these hands-on workshops will explore a variety of topics, ranging from embedded vision algorithms to software implementation and hardware acceleration. To receive up-to-date information about Summit Hands-On Workshops, register for the Alliance newsletter, Embedded Vision Insights.
