December 6, 2012
Don’t miss the the final stop in Ray Kurzweil’s How to Create a Mind book tour is tonight! Presentation at Rainy Days Book in Kansas at 7:00pm.
Ray Kurzweil discusses his newly released New York Times bestseller, How to Create a Mind: The Secret of Human Thought Revealed: Ray presents a provocative exploration of the most important project in human-machine civilization, reverse engineering the brain to understand precisely how it works and using that knowledge to create even more intelligent machines.
Ray discusses how the brain functions, how the mind emerges from the brain, and the implications of vastly increasing the powers of our intelligence in addressing the world’s problems. Ray thoughtfully examines emotional and moral intelligence and the origins of consciousness and envisions the radical possibilities of our merging with the intelligent technology we are creating.

Having read Ray’s newest, (it was available on day one at our Public Library in SLCounty) Ray explains that the skull just does not have the capacity to house “greater intelligence”. The CLOUD does and that is where the tools of the future will (and do now) reside. Link, baby, link.
He also made crystal clear why you hear people say, “I can see it, but can’t quite name it”, the brain’s structure being based on images.
Thank you, Ray, you are the greatest, literally. (I have an image of you) (:-)

More to the point, perhaps, would be creating more intelligent humans … and dogs, too, of course.

To say that I am crushed is putting it mildly. I live in NE Kansas, and the chance I would be able to ever hear Mr. Kurzweil speak is remote because I live in a remote part of the country. I own his singularity movie, I’ve purchased his books, I’ve been following him when he had the Soliel girl as an avatar, and I miss him. This sucks, and I wonder if there is any way I’ll ever get this chance again.
I was close to flying out to the Singularity conference in SF but couldn’t get there this year. I hope those of you in KC enjoyed it.

Obviously, so. But the point is, I follow RayK and have for years and wasn’t informed by email or any other way, and it seems strange to me that an announcement of this engagement wasn’t sent to those in the area. Am I wrong to think that in this day and age that this couldn’t have been done?

was there. was nice. missed you. bout 300 by the folds in my cortex. he spoke for bout an hour and seemed like half that. i am so thankful for that handful of miraculous minds that take the pressure off me to figure everything out. likewise i feel grateful to not be the spoonful of humanity with lesser profile detection facilities incorporated into their meat heads. wanted to ask one of many questions it would be fun to pose to a genius but there were so many hands wagging in the Q & A session it set me to mind of third grade when the teacher asked if anyone was ready for recess.
