God did not create the universe: Stephen Hawking
September 3, 2010
God did not create the universe, says Stephen Hawking in a new book, The Grand Design, co-authored with U.S. physicist Leonard Mlodinow (to be released Sept. 7).
He said the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting another star other than the Sun helped deconstruct the view of the father of physics Isaac Newton that the universe could not have arisen out of chaos but was created by God, The Times reports.
“That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions — the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass, far less remarkable, and far less compelling evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings,” he writes.

There are obviously many in the field of science who skoff at idea of the existence of God. As I look at the updated “Ramona” on this site, It makes me wonder how much more complex a living human being is by comparison. I believe I’m right in assuming that there are many in the scientific community who beilieve that life as we know it today, “self created” and does not exist by intentional design? That sounds to me more like philosophy than science. Apply the philosophy of self creation to Ramona, who in reality is many times less complex than a living human being. I have been using a computer long enough to realize that programs don’t just pop in out of nowhere. When I see software corruption and operating systems in need of a reinstall, it brings to mind the second law of thermodynamics whose concept trumps self creation at least in the world of software integrity. I don’t understand the reasoning of those who insist it’s ridiculous to view human existence as the product of intentional creation yet at the same time, recognize that AI’s like Ramona require an intentional creator. Even if we develop AI’s that can self create, there is still a creator involved in the process.

No one calls evolution “self creation”, because those words do not express anything like the process of evolution.

Then I can only guess that you have not seriously studied the *science* of evolution. It is amazing stuff. Really really interesting. But its also actually, surprisingly, pretty simple to understand at the most basic levels. Its only if you choose to get deep into it that it starts to get complex.
I’d continue, but I’ll just end by saying that all of your points are answered time and time again by many different people in many different ways. If you really want to learn, and not simply dig your heals int and protest (like many people out there), there is a lot of great information just a few searches away.
I leave you with my personal philosophy on how to reconcile God with science. God created the laws of the universe but does not guide it. He gave the universe free will. However, he knew that the inevitable result of these laws would be the creation of intelligent life that had to make choices about it purpose in life.

It seems to me useless to even bring considerations about God’s part in our universe into any scientific discussion at all. It cannot be proven one way or the other, so by adding God into the discussion one is only adding his own bias or prejudice. Nothing more.

Hawking: “God did not create the universe”… I didn’t know that Hawking had developed time travel! So, he traveled back in time, witnessed the creation of the universe and returned to tell us how it happened. I’m impressed.

What if god’s grand design was to create life (order) out of chaos? Its the most efficient system as it requires the least amount of input or management of the process.

Dhuuu! God, godess, Ect.. Just for the delusional. I’m tired of dealing with such foolish people, and have no time to dumb thing’s down to try to siphon of knoledge to such quack’s anymore. After all when I would do such and try to find the level they where on, they would mock me for butchering stuff to understand the level of knoledge base they had. Lot’s of waisted time in the end to, and I can’t wait for them, as they have held me behind to a degree just for atempting to do such.
