It it thought that this information may lead to better understanding of how the brain works (although the importance of right-left-brain differences is sometimes exaggerated) and may also be helpful on diagnosis of some brain illnesses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lateralization_of_brain_function and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotional_lateralization may be of interest.
