Seen the Swedish version (Real Humans, Äkta människor) with English subtitles which was simply superb: Probably more easier to immediately identify with this version for us non-Americans. I think it’s on the Uk version of Netflix, but don’t know about US Netflix.

My question is, how will our society deal with the impact of conscious androids on human culture. Certainly most labor jobs will be replaced by automation over the next 10 to 15 years as first rudimentary then more sophisticated AI replaces human labor. We already have an explosion of people in the rust belt with insufficient employment, what happens when all people everywhere are hit with shrinking job markets. At some point, every job a human being can do will be better done by a machine.
We can either let the current trend run to its predictable conclusion, a vanishingly small handful of people with godlike wealth and power, and remaining billions reduced to superfluous human biomass, to be disposed of at the discretion of those in power.
Or we can begin to flatten society’s distribution of benefit now and create a culture where everyone has complete sufficiency, as we build a world where perhaps the new currency is based on personal development, creativity and social contribution. At least looking at what kind of world we want to inhabit as human beings, rather than letter our worst inclinations decide for us.
That’s a really important question and I agree with what you are saying in the last paragraph. We are working on this in several ways at TheInnerRevolution.Org. If you want to learn more, just check out the website. I would like to connect with you to learn what you are doing in this arena. Thank you.
The answer is quite simple and efficient (considerably more efficient than “teaching” sufficiency until further possibility).
Basic Income. Universal free income is a progressive movement to realize our ability to see past the traditional moral imperative ” ‘Merica, Get a fuckin Job”.
Well. When the people whom have such a moral imperative have no employment, the tables will turn…and these people, however mostly not in power, are related to people in power or will kill poeple in power as traditional violence and hatred are their main forms of communication…
This can be avoided easily. There are many intelligent, easily devised points of logic to this solution on many forums and in many cultures.
I have a blog on this where a google search for “PISCES project basic income” will pull up a blogspot adless blog confirming this… Perpetually integrating Socioeconomically cumulative evolution strategy :)
That dystopia is hardly the only result of todays trends. Please, for some perspective, dose yourself with some Diamandis YouTube’s. As we continue on the current beneficial, not dystopian trend we can certainly hope to continue it. As we have news continuing to mislead us into thinking the world will end soon-details after the break-we have Diamandis giving us some pause. Well worth watching.
Then for a different reason to be concerned about advancing androidal robotics, an old novelette called “with folded hands” – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/With_Folded_Hands
Cautionary lesson – ensure we know how to control new tech before it becomes indispensable.
There seems to be recently increasing momentum gathering with this approach including public debate, referendums and trial runs occuring before the state of affairs you indicate : http://basicincome.org/news/2016/09/ontario-canada-new-report-minimum-income-pilot/.
It’s worth debating the pros and cons of this approach that seems timely and within current infrastructure to implement?
I think a totally flat economy might be better than only a few super wealthy and everyone else with nothing.
However I think something like a Resident or national dividend paid by land value and or similar pigouvian taxes might be a better option to smooth the transition and ensure resource access for humans.
I’m not sure in the long term when virtual agents of human equivalent moral weight are able to reproduce arbitrarily quickly what resource distribution will be just.
Good show, good acting, believable premise, great “Jerry rigged” cyborg son of half crazy AI programmer father who creates GAI buddies for son. Half crazy dad does the aforementioned “Jerry rigging” of his very recently dead son within minutes of the son drowning to death. Dad feverishly and inspiredly applies his GAI skills to bring his son to a new kind-o-life by replacing dead neural tissue with cybernetic brain parts.
Other cyber stuff is involved because the lad has a power hook-up but also eats, drinks and bleeds. As the beta test version of his dads genius the son has to deal his bio brain figuring out how to coordinate itself with the new AI brain part .
And thats just part of the set-up. Some is a waste, but thats true for all sci fi shows. Hope the run of this over in the UK goes on past season 2. Certainly timely in our age of burgeoning AI.
Can’t wait….. the first one was great.
btw.. there are some great future/technology themes covered in the Black Mirror series as well worth posting up an article or link to IMHO. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2085059/
Thanks, much appreciated!
