Chinese ghost city (credit:ABC)
[Note: according to a knowledgeable intel source, this report from What Does It Mean blog is based on Russian disinformation, with the intention of neutralizing what the Russians see as a Japanese threat.]
According to What Does It Mean, a new report circulating in the Kremlin prepared by the Foreign Ministry on the planned re-opening of talks with Japan over the disputed Kuril Islands during the next fortnight states that Russian diplomats were “stunned” after being told by their Japanese counterparts that upwards of 40 million of their peoples were in “extreme danger” of life-threatening radiation poisoning and could very well likely be faced with forced evacuations away from their countries eastern most located cities…including the world’s largest one, Tokyo.
The blog also reports that “Japanese diplomats told their Russian counterparts that they were, also, ‘seriously considering’ an offer by China to relocate tens of millions of their citizens to the Chinese mainland to inhabit what are called the ‘ghost cities,’ built for reasons still unknown.”
New Tokyo?

`Unverified strange stories have a place with any agency funded to look up and print strange stories, and attempt to verify them. KurzweilAI is good for indicating technology directions of change that might have great influence on our teeterin dangerous future. Some thing odd is happening in Chinese construction. Some places are overbuilding rows of high rises, but that does not to have an impact on the future technology of the world as much as the multitude of Chinese names listed in the credit signatures for group announcements of significant genetic research from every university of the world. The possibly mad dictates of the aging rulers of China blends in with all the other certainly mad behavior of the dictators of small nations, and are not ultimately as important as the cell phones in the hands of their oppressed people walking their streets in self controlled protest. Political changes are not Ray Kurtzweilers genius. He runs this news latter of technical advances in accelleration and is keeping us in touch with as many as seems significant to rescue us from the results pf stupid misuse of these changes. The survival of our planet may be at stake..

What part is disinformation… 40 million Japanese Plus need to evacuate Japan… read about fuel pool No.4 … and reactor 2 it can not be worked on.

It’s terrible to laugh at such a catastrophe, if it’s true. But the truth is: maybe there’s a bright side. I mean will all the super rich and their ffollowers disappear into their underground bunkers? Does that mean there will be more land topside for us peasants?
It makes you wish there were more 1%ers, Maybe they’d take their followers with them? For fun, frolic, and food.
I can imagine, a million years from now, archeologists from another solar system digging into one of these vast underground death vaults and deciding they had some religious significance. We didn’t bury one guy in a Pyramid, We buried a bunch of them.
I’m on Kauai come visit me bettejo We’re having fun with this at the Garden island Newspaper Forum discussion site. Just google The Garden island

Great article Amara. I love how they pulled together the ghost cities and the fallout and made it seem that there was a possibility that the 2 were a planned colloboration. Man, people, please read the full story and try and see what the real intent was here. One of the hallmarks of intelligence is to be able to combine different bits of information and model them into several possibilities. Please put in the effort before you spew your emotions onto the owlrd.

In the meantime, why is there not more work on extracts to protect the people in japan? I would hate to think this is necessary for population control?
by PA
Ummm, extraction and population control? How do you mean that? Could you elaborate a little more so we know whether you have a serious thought process going here or not???
by Patrick
It’s ok Amara. You made a mistake, but you have a tough job finding and editing all this material, so no big deal. Many of the commenters here need to chill, and appreciate the well, edited and organized material at this site.
The video was interesting and did explain why those vacant cities exist, so it’s not ‘reasons unknown’.
by Editor
Patrick: I’m not sure what mistake I made (aside from “burying the lead” — putting the key info about the disinformation at the bottom — and not including a warning in the headline for delicate readers that the piece was about crazy conspiracy theories).
by Razor
@Amara I’ve come to this a bit late and you appear to have modified the original article, but I think the issue of disinformation is important. Wacky conspiracy theories spreading via blogs can be extremely damaging. You only have to look at the anti-vaxer movement – who’ve been able to spread their ideas into mainstream media. Dis-Information in an information age couldn’t be more important.
by PA
Ahhh, what a story!!
I work in, ahhh, let’s say – a dark community (enough said). I found this little piece on disinformation absolutely brilliant. Folks put far too much in something that they do not know enough of or do not do any additional research on their own.
A disinformation piece like this generates exactly some of the responses that were generated here.
I knew the Chinese were very gullible with some of the Onion articles and it seems it is the same here in the U.S…..
Great stuff.
by Editor
PA: What’s your take on RT, the Russian TV network that’s putting out what appears to be similar disinformation?
by PA
RT (Russia Today)
I would not put a great deal of credence into anything they say at this point. Who knows how much of their content comes from the Kremlin, or any organizational affiliations, containing who knows what kind of biased slant.
For example, RT is going to have Julian Assange on – that puts up one red flag right there.
I might watch/listen/read some of the RT content but only for situational awareness with a grain of salt just so that I am aware of what they might be spouting on any given day or topic.
It just goes back to what one would watch here in the U.S. One cannot just watch/read one or two sources to get all their information. That is a dead end, leaving you with a very narrow focus of a much broader range. One has to watch/read several outlets (MSNBC, FOX, CNN, BBC, Reuters, WSJ, etc) and think about the content, making your own educated thoughts.
Sorry for the long pseudo-diatribe but it is a pet peeve when people only follow one or two outlets for their news. And it’s even worse when people follow something like RT….

The editor should have given a disclaimer like ‘ Not Personal opinion or the Institution’s opinion’.
by Editor
Shravan: Actually, I did state an opinion (not mine, but that of an expert): that the absurd blog story I quoted is disinformation. The point of my blog post was to point out that the “What Does It Mean” story is an example of disinformation. Apparently, I have failed to communicate that (even after I moved that statement up the first sentence). The deeper question is: what are the strategies and effects of these disinformation campaigns in geopolitics and other areas?
by Shravan
This is a Crack pot story but may people out there believe in such things.
by Editor
Shravan: exactly. That’s why I find it important to analyze these stories. What other stories do you (and I) believe right now that are based on disinformation?
by Nigel Lyon
Please do us all a favour and delete this utterly useless article
by Editor
Nigel: I find it useful as a cautionary example of how masses of people can potentially be swayed by disinformation. It probably seems obvious and silly to most readers of KurzweilAI, but there are millions of people who would believe it, thus my interest in analyzing these narratives.
by Editor
Note that this story was intended to show the use of disinformation. To make that clear, I moved the sentence explaining that up to the top and also modified the title. Also note that this is a blog (opinion) post (not a news post).

I rarely make any responses here, but I’m appalled at why this is even on this website. I generally respect this website quite a bit… I’d prefer the quality stays up to par.

This is disappointing at best, and shows an utter lack of research before posting this up.
1) There is no elevated radiation in Tokyo. It’s far less than you’d find in countries that get a lot of sun, like Brazil, or cities at high elevations, like Denver.
2) There is enormous animosity between China and Japan. The Chinese government would never let that many Japanese people come into the mainland – they’d have an untold amount of civil unrest just from proposing the idea.
This is ignoring the part where there isn’t even 40 million people in Tokyo – there’s 30 million in the greater metropolitan area.
Please do a modicum of research before you post these kind of things here. As it is now, there is no way to save this article. Please delete it, as it is almost entirely misinformation.
by Editor
Jack: you seem to be under the impression I am posting this story as fact. I am posting it as an example of disinformation (deliberate use of misinformation), as I clearly stated.
by candy
Yes, it will probably happen. If it does, be prepared. Imagine China and Japan together. Their economy combined is way better than the US. It will give them a 200 million army – just as the Bible says.

I’m also disappointed to find this article here. it seems like it’s from some unrelated website.

This on Kurzweil AI? C’mon, man!
by Anon
I agree that this doesn’t belong on KurzweilAI.
by Don
This really doesn’t belong in Kurzweil Accelerating Intelligence newsletter. Please keep the focus on the core elements of the Singularity that are based on valid and verified data. This type of unsubstantiated story is so antithetical to Ray’s focus on data-supported thought and discussion, I am stunned that it was included.

As social unrest divides the country, the governemtn can step in to nationalize these properties making them affordable to the millions.

Ghost cities, evacuations from fallout, Russian disinformation campaigns, quiet an intreguing story. I would like to see a follow up article if any new information develops
by Editor
Josh: OK, let’s see what our intrepid readers can suggest….
by Mike Wagner
Even with the clarification at the end the headline itself is disinformation.
by Editor
OK, you have a point. Modified.

Based on all the wild headlines at the blog the author has relied upon, I would advise her to stop tarnishing the Kurzweil brand with this nonsense.
by Editor
James, apparently you didn’t read the next to last sentence.
by James Lindelien
Your wild headline was the top headline in my Kurzweil email today, and you are expecting me to read all the way to the end of the article to find your disclaimer? That is not journalism.
