Jason Silva | Video maps out Kurzweil’s Six Epochs of Evolution
December 2, 2012
Jason Silva | This video maps out Kurzweil’s Six Epochs of Evolution showing the exponential progression in the way the universe stores and processes information. What we see is a bootstrapping recursive complexification leading us towards some kind of intelligence singularity. Created for educational purposes only and non-commercial use by Jason Silva.

It’s an alright video. But for what public has this been made?
It’s too short to convey any real information and doesn’t even bother with explanations. The video is therefore useless to the general public. It’s a video that’s preaching to the choir.
Us Singularity-aware need to be careful not turn this whole thing into a whacky religion. There are already plenty of those to go around.

Jay, the unfortunate thing is, this isn’t something that can be gotten away from. This is the sort of discussion that’s been had a million times, but it’s all too easy for everything and everyone knowledgable about the Singularity to be made out as “just another dogma” — the implications are too great, the people too enthusastic and so on.
Not that it’s necessarily a big deal mind you…while I can understand the wanting of all of this to not be seen as a religion, because that tends to have a negative connotation (which may not be necessarily deserving), if people choose to see it in a very deep almost religious sense…well….that’s their choice to make. It’s something I feel that’s impossible to totally get away from and, in a way, it’s not that big of a deal in the first place.
Their are key differences of course, like the fact that thousands of teams around the world are working to make this idea a reality, over just preaching that it will happen when it happens, but my point with this tangent is….I guess to just let it go. If you don’t view the Singularity as a dogma, others will and call you out on it, and perhaps that’s not really a bad thing or something that tarnishes the concept….if anything, the anxiety is just because that “Religion” has a negative connotation around here which may not be completely deserving.
You know and understand why you believe in what it is you believe in – how others choose to interpret it, and you, is their call….character trumps all — let it go, be respectful of other people’s beliefs (I close my eyes and bow my head when the rest of my family prays even though I don’t believe in that whatsoever…it’s not about pride or proving a point, but more so that it’s not worth the fuss in resisting), and hopefully they will do the same, and if they don’t….that’s their problem.
That’s my tangent of the day.

Pretty cool — I really like seeing Jason…he has a skill with words, and while it doesn’t really feel like he says things that are necessarily original, all the things he says are well-taken and well-put. His energy reminds me alot of Peter Diamandis; I love his enthusiasm.

“iMind…having created the Gods, we can turn into them” — he has a wonderful way with words, I love watching his movies :D.

Cool video (especially the swimmer) but, how do you know that there are only six epochs?

I always love how much passion and energy Jason Silva brings to his videos and his ability to get this mixed with cool imagery in such a compressed videos. Have to wonder what ADHD drugs he is on…. (or not)…maybe just high on life or technology and potential of the future…. Keep ‘em going… can’t wait to see what technolust vision eyeCandy for the singularity soul he can inject us with next!!
