(I am not related to Leap either), I like touch free ideas so you can use them for medical/dental/food prep or anytime you have to keep hands off the surface to help keep it sterile for data entry... Leap still has my vote as well... just wish they would hurry up and release some demo units!!

One is intended for on-surface gesture manipulation, and the other is 3D spacially gesture driven & "tied" to a laptop/computer display. Both are impressive and I agree that Leap Motion's is the more exciting of the two. But the ideal system to me harkens back to Pranav Mistry's gesture-based system which uses a mini-projector to break free, cause any suface to become a computational surface and ultimately become trully mobile. (What ever happened to that?!?)

It seems to me that an ideal system would be a hybrid that combines the advantages of both projection onto surfaces and 3D gesture control of devices. Maybe the miniturization tech isn't quite there yet for 3D IR detection? Exciting stuff!

This is NOT impressive at all. Your hands must be co-planar, in the focal plane of the observing camera. You want impressive? Try the Leap Motion IR based 3D spatial detector, available this fall (soon!) for just $75. No projector, accuracy of .01mm, real time responsiveness, 8 cubic feet of active volume... Match that, Kinect-o-saurus!!!

Disclaimer, No I am not employed by either company.
