The Kurzweil Foundation, founded in 1985, is dedicated to fostering creative applications of technology to human needs. The Foundation was formed to provide support technology for the handicapped and forums to advance public understanding of the social impact of new technology.

The Foundation has focused its resources on educational projects, including the co-sponsorship with the Sonya Kurzweil Developmental Center of Project Poetry and Pictures, an endeavor to promote literacy and arts amongst school aged children. The Foundation has established a scholarship program for blind college students. The program has been in place for seven years with over 300 scholarships awarded.

With every passing year we recognize the increasing value of the National Federation of the Blind’s Scholarship Program to our national organization. Members of previous scholarship classes stream back to take part in convention activities and assume responsibility, doing anything that they can see needs to be done.
