Join the biggest AR Hackathon in San Francisco!

We’re excited to present, along with our partners at Wix, Unity, Shapeways and AWE, the first ever Meta Augmented Reality Hackathon at the gorgeous Wix lounge in San Francisco’s SOMA district.

This is a great opportunity to build augmented reality applications using the Meta SDK (on Unity 3D) and to network with Unity developers, AR enthusiasts and Meta’s team. You’ll be able to present your app to Meta’s CEO for a chance to win a Meta 1 Developer Kit and a 1 year Unity Pro license.

Hackathon Agenda

Day 1

6:30pm: Pre-Hackathon Cocktail Party
Meta, Wix, Unity and Shapeways and AWE will host a cocktail party open exclusively to registered members of the Hackathon. Connect with the Bay Area’s AR community while you get to know your peers and assemble your team! Snacks and drinks will be served.

8:00pm: Hackathon Begins!
You will have 24 hours to build a killer app with your team. Throughout the hackathon, Meta engineers will be around to guide and assist with any questions.
Each team of 3-4 people will have access to a pair of Meta glasses to hack on. You can arrive at the event as a team or we will help you find a team at the event.
During the hackathon we’ll keep your motor running with food and beverages; a nice dinner, breakfast, snacks and refreshments.
Hacking ends at 6PM the following day.

Day 2

6:45pm: Presentations
All teams will present their applications in front of Meta’s team of Executives, including Meta’s CEO, Meron Gribetz and CPO Soren Harner.

Prizes

3 teams will be selected as winners and will get to take home a Meta 1 developer kit and a 1 year Unity Pro License!

The Meta 1 Developer Kit includes:

• Meta 1 see-through AR glasses and Meta SDK software ($667 value)
• 1 Year Unity Pro license ($1,500 value)
• Bundled Unity packages Vectrosity, Coherent UI, Highlighting System ($180 value)

FAQs

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

You must be 18 years or older to participate.

Any requirement to participate at the event?

Development machines with Windows 8 (recommended), Windows 7 (supported). Bootcamp can be used to Install Windows on a Mac beforehand. Virtual machines like VMWARE are not supported

• Intel Core i7 for best results or i5 processor
• Unity Pro software must be installed (Free 14-day trial available to download here: http://unity3d.com/unity/download)
• 2 USB ports
• 1 HDMI port or HDMI input adapter
• Permission for Meta to film you and the application you develop

Is there a way to learn about the Meta SDK before the Hackathon?

Can people sleep at the venue?

Yes. If you need a break during the 24 hour hacking period. We do recommend bringing a sleeping bag.
