Microsoft KinEtre lets you possess people, inanimate objects
August 9, 2012
Kinect technique lets your body control virtual avatars of things around your house.
Ever wanted to make your bookshelf shake its booty just by shaking your own? Graphics gurus at Microsoft Research have a new system that will let you do just that — possess other inanimate objects around your house or even make images of other people move. The KinÊtre project starts with a KinectFusion scan of an object or person and then animates the image using your own body as a guide.

Yes, funny things will happen when people will “inhabit” a precise 3D body of a celebrity. Marilyn will be a destination of choice.
Then you can have people impersonation, insert yourself in a movie and play a part for a while, or make variations on the movie plot.
Also interesting artistic variations when you’ll parametrize the mapping from your body parts to the target with yet another sense (e.g. pressure or raising voice to inflate the target, LOL) or multi mapping to project yourself in a coordinated squad, endless possibilities from this blueprint.

Besides, interesting possible applications for psychotherapy, couples therapy (I play you, you play me) or autistic children.

I can definitely see what kind of trouble this can get us into, as the technology progresses.
