I have been reading hedweb for years. http://hedweb.com/abolitionist-project/index.html

Do you think human suffering as we know it will be abolished?

Do you think suffering is functional? Would SAI experience something that is analogous to human suffering?

Interesting site.

Not for a long time, and even then not for everyone, as some seem to like it.

I would be useful to agree what we mean by suffering, is it a subset of pain?

That is a reaction by the body to cause repair reaction or you to a problem.

In the higher beings there is more and it has many forms as the sensitivity and intelligence heightens: tortured genius is a common term.

Other corrective systems may work but aversion therapy is the best known anti-addiction cure..mild electric shock treatment.

Ending suffering is what drives us, especially in intellectual pursuits where the suffering of not knowing ot not winning is too much not to act on.

Yup, there must be loads of alternatuives.

Suffering is an indulgenece of the ego.

OK mind XX'ers...this issue is at the heart of what this fleshy--evolutionary process is for..or what is it worth?...or..Why do you need it?...
I mean if you all ready have the ability to produce godhood like inteligence....
Then why not track down all the evolution, process'es out there in your cosmos...and help them, twieek there evolution,--to--godhood,,so it isn't " SO FULL OF SUFFERING "....
So either they all just float off to venius,,and blow freek'n bulbbles...ONCE THEY FIND THERE SING...
But that's such a waste,,,
ONce..an inteligence reache's there sing...even other kind's of iteligence...IE:...--avv ee an /// reptilian = GODZILLA/// felion-cats-Lions../// and fish.- porpi,whale,dolphin/// whatever...
When another race of flesh,(meat sacks )...gets into singularity,,they should be finding and helping others,,to get through without so much
PAIN AND SORROW

conclution...WE ARE ALONE IN OUR PART OF THE
COSMOS
or something much more sinester....

someday..

Exapted, to answer your question Yes, suffering should be abolished. How we can address this issue is metaphysical in nature, as one can say that merely being alive incurrs suffering, yes?

But to say that suffering is so horrible, the earth and the rest of the universe should be lifeless, is a primary goal, to then kill off all living material to end and prevent suffering. This kind of lunatic thinking reminds me of Dr. Who's Daleks who were forever, chanting "Exterminate! Exterminate!" So, this seems more than a bit of overkill, don't you agree.

So maybe a more nuanced view, that suffering should be greatly reduced, and eliminated where it does not cause the death of the sufferer. There's a lot circular reasoning involved here, isn't there?
