If anything we are going to evolve that much faster. Want to swim with dolphins? Why not. Live in weightlessness? Why not. We will change ourselves in inumerable ways. Not everyone is going to want what you might want. What took millions of years could happen overnight. Not everyone is going to want to be blond haired and blue eyed, not by a long shot. Let's go for purple too.

So now they can make us all perfect, so we won't need evolution any longer?

Determine RNA profile set.
Optimise.
Synthesize complimentary PPR profile set.
Apply.
Monitor.
Reiterate as required.
= immortality?

It is true that biology, especially genetics is more and more an IT science, a point of view encompassed now by Systems biology (cf http://www.bluesci.org/?p=7542).

When one is devising a computer program mapping an input to an output, there are usually several articulation points (to take a [call]graph analogy, say nodes representing function calls with high connectivity in the execution space of the program) for a possible intervention to modify the I/O relationship under analysis.

Considering DNA to phenotype as a particular I/O instantiation and "control flow", it is time now to devise a coherent map of the currently known articulation points for better control or "correction" of this mapping.

This article is demonstrating yet another critical articulation point for possible leveraging, this time at the transcriptome juncture.
Fascinating stuff!

If they need a gunia pig to experiment on I volunteer.
I have Sjogrens and it has made my last 20 years of life
a living hell. I am told it is genetic. So here I am, let them
contact me.

This significance of this breakthrough will be come apparent soon enough. Kudos and much wealth to the researchers (if anything is patentable).
