The problem with the utopian global state that Mr. de Garis imagines is that if it turns into global dictatorship – which the history of other grandiose political projects (Soviet Union, etc.) suggests is very likely – then to follow de Garis’ program would be to create the architecture of our global enslavement. The EU is already in deep trouble and is showing dictatorial tendencies, so I’m not sure why anyone would want to hold it up as a model for the rest of humanity.

True diversity does not arise from global institutions, but from independent local cultures. It’s truly disturbing how little common sense these “mad scientists” have about human nature. We are, after all, plains apes adapted for life in small tribes, and there is little reason to believe that we are destined to be a global species. I’m much more concerned about a globalist dystopia resulting from the dreams of rather crazy people like de Garis (who also envisions a future apocalyptic war between pro-technologists who want to build “god brains” and anti-technologists who want nothing to do with their mad schemes). The rational scientific project is in constant danger of running amok and exterminating us, which means that deranged globalist scientists like de Garis are a far greater danger to humanity than any non-globalist traditionalist or “Terran” could ever be.
