New Kindle products light a fire
September 8, 2012
Amazon has announced five new tablets, including an updated Kindle Fire for $159, a new e-reader called the Paperwhite for $119, and three models of the new Kindle Fire HD, all garnering widespread positive press reviews so far.
The Kindle Fire HD models feature slimmed down designs, improved displays, more powerful processors, and dual stereo speakers with Dolby Digital Plus optimization.
Their unique software features include “X-Ray,” which lets you easily pull up contextual information about books and movies, and “FreeTime,” which allows parents to set time and content restrictions for kids.
Kindle Paperwhite features a higher-resolution, frontlit e-reader with a soft ambient light and super-sharp text. The key innovation, the “frontlight,” turns the gray screen whiter.

I expect Apple to fire a kill shot with Siri 2.0 now that the mainstream consumer no longer fears it or associates it with Big Brother. Apple won’t be able to compete on price point, and will be forced to innovate. Jeff Bezos is probably already on the phone with IBM negotiating a deal for a Watson. This is gonna get good.

the only thing wrong with the kindle is its fragility and the fact that some kindles don´t play mp3 is hidden from view.

From what I’ve read, you should be okay as long as you get a decent protective cover for them. I do the same for my phone, and even my mp3 player, as accidents will happen.

Just to let you know, the ‘Paperwhite Kindle’ link takes you to the basic Kindle e-reader page.
