if you can get a array for 5 watt installed go for it .its the 20 lease that kills the deals So better financing is the key. Then more people will move forward.

So are these cheaper to make than conventional poly/monocrystaline cells? They have poorer efficiency. How does this research pave the way for future breakthroughs?

Did I miss the bottom line where it said how much efficiency, and cost, increase?

A smart phone is ~$500 and I can give the old one to my kids. A solar installation is more than 10Xs this and would occupy the limited space on my one roof for ~>20 years. But I perceive that I have only 6 to 12 months to make a decision, so I will.

gaoptimize:
The infrastructure is the expensive part. Wiring, inverters, mounts, sun trackers will be useful in any system.

Would you not buy a "smart" phone because a better one is 5 years away?

Is anyone else delaying their decision to install current generation solar based on announcements like this, that seem to come out about once per month? I got a proposal from SolarCity and certain aspects of their pricing options raised concerns. I look at the declining prices of do-it-yourself kits on eBay, and I'll admit I'm paralyzed on this decision. All I know is those with an off-grid capable solar electricity system will be living like gods, caparably, when economic SHTF, so I need one...but the right one. It is a game of chicken as SHTF draws closer.
