Ray Kurzweil will present a keynote address on "Human Level 'Strong' AI: the Prospects and Implications" at IS 2002: 12th Annual Canadian Conference on Intelligent Systems in Calgary, May 29-31.
"Three-dimensional molecular computing will provide the hardware for human-level 'strong' AI well before 2030," says Kurzweil. "The more important software insights will be gained in part from the reverse-engineering of the human brain, a process well under way.
"Once nonbiological intelligence matches the range and subtlety of human intelligence, it will necessarily soar past it because of the continuing acceleration of information-based technologies, as well as the ability of machines to instantly share their knowledge. The implication will be an intimate merger between the technology-creating species and the evolutionary process it spawned."
Canada's leading forum for the exchange of ideas and information about intelligent systems technology, the Canadian Conference on Intelligent Systems will focus on how intelligent systems and robotics -- technologies that perceive, reason, make decisions and essentially act like humans -- are benefiting Canadians.
