Project Meshnet aims to build a censorship-free alternative to the Internet
July 30, 2012
Imagine an Internet without censorship, an Internet built out of like-minded peers and secure connections. That’s the goal of Project Meshnet, PC World reports.
Currently, each node connects to a couple other nodes by manually configuring links over an IPv4 network. The ultimate goal is to have every node connected directly by physical means; be it wire, optical cable or radio waves.”
An experimental network by the name of Hyperboria, a network that apparently bears a resemblance to the “Internet of the late 1980s,” is already in place. More: Project Meshnet site.

Basically like the Freenet project but down to the hardware now.

I dont understand this technically yet, but I have a couple of thoughts:
Something technologically viable still has to obey laws. Meshnet seems to be an internet you cant shut down?
OK if an A.I. is launched virally – say it viruses some neural nodes that copy on any computer to everyone in your email, like the I Love You virus did,
- and once a enough nodes were cloned, a giant A.I., system (neural network) came into being, built to increase it’s intelligence (general problem solving systems)..This couldn’t be shut down.
Fear about runaway pathogens/nano grey goo would be nothing to runaway A.I.
Such fears aren’t new & places have been studying them for a few years.
But a brilliant idea and well explained on the vid. Personal computing capacity is doubling every 1.4 years to the $1 and the enormous size required by Meshnet may be available by 2030.

Maybe they could link the meshnet from cell phone to cell phone. But this would use up all your minutes for the month.

This could free a lot of people…but who is going to put up all the cable?
