Turn a bunch loose with no word seeds, just an ability to invent words. Then see what kind of language they come up with "unprompted".

Maybe with more vowels than this:

The words could be real inventions, not just random.

With 'firing' recognition neurons that should be already active during the recognition process, something new and unknown would still have some knowns associated with it. These knowns would be whatever the AI could 'recognize', such as a color property, a shape, or texture. It would have been neat to see this little AI invent a new word based on known properties and creative language rules. A new object that was kind of shaped like a boat anchor, but found on a wall, could be called “wallanchorum". Sometimes the word could be chosen because the unknown's function or purpose was known, othertimes it would be chosen based on known physical properties. Basically, the strongest firing neurons associated with the unknown object would be used in creating the new name.
