Stuart Hameroff

July 11, 2009

Professor Hameroff’s heavily-publicized collaborations with the renowned physicist Sir Roger Penrose have given rise to a controversial theory: the orchestrated objective reduction theory of consciousness. Professor Hameroff is a doctor of medicine, a professor of anesthesiology and psychology, as well as associate director of the Center for Consciousness Studies at University of Arizona. He spends his time in the surgical operating rooms at University Medical Center and has attended more than 10,000 surgical operations. While still a student he was advised to become an anesthetist in order to gain real insights into the relatively uncharted territories of consciousness and the human mind.
