There was a video on this web site , that showed some future phone concepts, in particular was the folding nature of the next generation. In the animation, they showed a foldable phone being used to " smell if a food was edible. It had actual sensors for smell. In other articles there have been references to cell phone reducing to the size of a red blood cell in about ten years. At that size it could potentially be very inexpensive. Numerous " cell" cell phones could coordinate and take readings in multiples of frequencies of electromagnetic radiation. In theory, the cell phone could perform all types of diagnostics, with greater accuracy, in ten plus years. This is still in the science fiction state, but that is where it is headed. It could " map" the state of every synaptic connection, thus giving the potential for a very accurate reproduction of all of your minds states. Stated another way, the potential for backing up, and uploading. Ray places that date at twenty years from now, but on this site, a quote from a industry spokesman said, it would only be ten years. Remember Ray's reference to linear thinking? At our rate of change, it is possible that the chemputer will no longer be science fiction. Ten to twenty years from now, doctors could be obsolete, and you could make a xerox copy of your self!!! Ten to twenty years. Not my words, Rays view, and an industry spokesmans view. That's really soon, and it will change everything!!!!!!!!

I like the fact that this device system is "prickfree". The promise of having similar devices for diabetic blood tests has still not been proven to be anywhere near 100% accurate.

If this test turns out to be accurate, doctors of many countries, both rich and poor, would be happy to know immediately whether the woman sitting in their office is anemic, without having to wait for a lab result to come back.

Just think, GatorALLin, these cell phones will one day provide all the medical tests of a Starfleet tricorder.

Without a doubt, Trakk. Did you see the article here a week or two ago about using graphene to filter salt out of seawater?

Next....a cell phone powered water purification device for these developing countries where there is a shortage of clean drinking water in many rural areas.

I know it sounds far fetched now , but with the current rate of technological development, it could be possible within 5 years.
