About the short film’s themes.

about the film • from the creators | Post Modem is a satirical, science fiction, pop musical film — based on the theories of Ray Kurzweil and other futurists. It’s the story of 2 Miami, Florida girls and how they deal with the technological singularity, as told through a series of cinematic tweets.

Jillian Mayer is a visual performance artist and film-maker. Her video works and performances have been displayed at galleries and museums internationally — plus film festivals such as SXSW, Sundance, Rottenberg, and the New York Film Festival. She was recently featured in Art Papers and in Art News discussing identity, internet and her artistic practices and influences.

Through videos, sculptures, online experiences, photography, performances, and installations, she explores how tech affects our lives, bodies and identities. Mayer investigates the points of tension between our online and physical worlds and shows their porous boundary.

She has exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Bass Museum of Art, and the Guggenheim Museum. Jillian Mayer’s work has been featured in Art Papers, Art in America, Art News, The Huffington Post and The New York Times. She was listed in the 25 New Faces of Independent Film by Film•Maker Magazine with creative partner Lucas Leyva.

note • from Jillian Mayer | Hello, my name is Jillian Mayer and my work generally crosses between film, installation, performance and web. My art plays in the digital realm while incorporating interactive and tech elements to create a non-linear meta-narrative.

My exhibitions feature sculpture, installation, websites, automated toll-free phone messaging services, and performance exploring the concept of a technological singularity — the theoretical moment in time when the boundary between human + machine no longer exists.

I use comedy to inspire introspection about technology’s place as a surrogate for spirituality in our lives. Beyond spirituality, tech becoming much more than just a tool — regardless of whether predictions of futurists like Ray Kurzweil come to fruition. I explore the ramifications of this impending change, from sociological to sublime.
