There is a difference at age 72 with treating high cholesterol with drugs, than with diet and exercise. If at age 72 your dad treated his high cholesterol with a 10% fat diet and exercise, you'd have a more compelling case to confront this article.

This was actually discussed in the previous chapter. Treating cholesterol by parmacology is not the answer. A 10% fat diet is where the real benefits will kick in; however, it does not always produce miracles in that it would take time to reverse the effects of the clogged arteries. An old Accupuncture saying was that for every year that a problem exists a month of treatment is required, which I found was true in problems I had accrued after 50 years.

In the text there is a big emphasis on fat, and its result, a high cholesterol level. The effect of cholesterol on life expectancy may be significant for some people, but I would like to point out this is not the case for everybody.

My father had his first clotting at the age of 72. He got a stend, and his cholesterol level was treated. One year later he had 3 more clottings despite his low cholesterol level. This obviously had some other cause. Which one that is I don't know and is not relevant for my point. I just want to say that low cholesterol does in not protect one from heart problems in general. It just does if cholesterol was the cause of the clotting.
