Translational Bodies: Ethical, Legal and Social Issues

March 18, 2014

The Wellcome Strategic Programme in the Human Body, its Scope, Limits and Future is a 5-year programme that is supported by a prestigious Wellcome Trust Biomedical Ethics Strategic Award. The programme, with a value of more than £800,000, is led by Professor John Harris and colleagues in iSEI and enables an exciting new collaboration with Sarah Cunningham-Burley, Professor of Medical and Family Sociology at the University of Edinburgh. Building on established research groups with diverse expertise, this multidisciplinary programme will follow five strands of innovative research:

  1. Human biomaterials (for more details see Uses of Human Organs and Tissues)
  2. Genethics (see Genethics)
  3. Reproduction (see Reproductive Technologies)
  4. Enhancement (see Enhancement, Ability and Disability)
  5. Methods in bioethics (see Methods in Bioethics)

The five strands are closely related to ongoing research at iSEI and you can find more information about each of these topics by linking to the corresponding “research” pages on this website, as indicated.
