Oh then we shouldn't have cars on the road at all!!!! Think of what bad drivers could do to innocent people!
See the Google Car developed by Sebastian Thrun. Now that's scary! Cars smarter than humans! What an idea!
I'm thinking cars that drive themselves are most likely encrypted; just a notion.

Wow! Could something be more STUIPD?! [yes, that was intentional] Think what hackers could do with this technology. The simplest thing would be sending your car wrong messages that result in it driving off the road to avoid a phantom collision. Or confusing it by sending it conflicting messages. The stupidity of this could only be created in academia where reality is only a passing acquaintance. These "perfect world" researchers need to get out and see the real world once in a while.

It's like state sponsoreed Minitel that delayed the spread of Internet in France.

Autonomous car will be available within 10 years and they will be superior since they can read traffic signs, avoid pedestrians, bikes etc.

Putting something like this out "now" (instead of 20 years ago) it will only cost lifes since it will delay a far better solution.

That , in a nutshell, describes all robot to human relationships. 'A robot to clean up after us', the avatars at the airport, etc. The Goverment can mandate a simple transponder, that just says , ' I am traveling at x miles an hour, going in this direction. Every vehicle should have one. That wouldn't be too costly. Then set standards for the utilization and expansion of thati info. Just think, if Lindsey Lohan had that, way back when she went afoul with the Law, she'd never have been in an accident, or jail!

If it will take 30 years for this technology to become integrated, then it could be outdated by the time it is put in place. Self-driving cars, that do not depend on other cars talking to them should already be very advanced. Google claims that its car will be ready in three years.

Somebody will figure out a way to hack into the system, and unleash a virus or command cars to apply breaks at the wrong time. The system should employ sread spectrum so that jamming would be difficult. Encryption should be utilized as well. Writable or updatable modules should not be put directly on the Internet.
