If the crew were just Davids then there would be not plot. The alien couldn't eat him. He wouldn't make all the bone headed moves that the first exploratory team did. He couldn't get lost. He figured out the contents of the jars, but the others were oblivious. All the reasons that robots will replace humans, if a company wants to achieve it's goal, whether good or bad.. The only virtue that the human crew brought to the table was their expertise. All of that could be compiled in an AI mind. Other than the movies distopia bend, it's a good exploration of the capabilities that robots will posses very soon. Although David say's that he can help human interactions in the corporate environment, in reality he will replace most if not all the other humans in all business settings.
