The term multitasking means the brain is not simultaneously doing parallel separate analytical and decision making actions, but rather the brain is switching from action A in process to action B in process, to perhaps
action C; and the brain has prioritized the sequencing of these separate decision making processes predicated on a value system, say life safety, or time critical or the like.
An example would be piloting in IMC conditions in serve turbulence where
one would be switching from A to D to C to B to A etc. in no perceived
logical sequence because of the chaotic atmospheric conditions.
How each human being handle this non-sequential high speed switching
of multiple tasking of the brain particularly under stress may depends on your genetic gifts or perhaps it could taught. Open question.

It would be useful if cell phones shut off automatically when a person got into a vehicle.

My personal opinion is that the findings in this experiment surely validate a truth that the majority of us care not to accept. Is it possible that some view themselves as "less" for lacking an ability to multitask X2 visually? My guess is that if prohibiting texting while driving isn't banned, the death and serious injury rate will likely continue to climb drastically.

In 2009, there were 5,474 people killed in crashes involving driver distraction, and an estimated 448,000 injuries. That same year, 10,839 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third of all traffic-related deaths in the United States. An estimated 525,600 people were injured. This shows that driving distracted can be just as dangerous as driving drunk. This is why it’s essential to never drink and drive and to learn the tips on how to stop texting while driving.

In Florida there are No distracted driving laws.... How crazy is that? More importantly how many people die each year (just in Florida alone) because they had to get their next text? Way more than the horrible crimes in CO and theater that we are all upset with.... way more! http://www.facebook.com/stopthetexts
