As someone who broadcasts from Japan, I will at this time offer my services to travel north to Tokyo and do some high-level research on this.

Can it be Photoshopped before printing? ;)

This could be used to print much more interesting things than humans. I think it would be fun to have a little extremely detailed model of my city or home town.

Can your city or hometown step into the booth? I see your point…but perhaps you can find a 3-D image on Google Earth to download and send to a 3-D printing company to have printed for you. Could run you between $500.00 to $1,500.00 depending on dimensions, printed material to be used etc. I work in the Entertainment Industry as well as the Toy Industry and although 3-D printing is coming down in cost each year as there are more and more companies offering the service, it is still expensive to the average person.

It won’t be long until you can do this at home, then go to online clothing retailers and get a pretty accurate idea of how clothing will look on you, saving you the trip to the store. It’ll be wonderful for them. Of course, it won’t be much longer and we’ll be able to print the items out at home, and it’ll be terrible for them. They’ll have a good 5-10 years in the meantime though.

I don’t know who will be more excited: practitioners of voodoo or children who like to play with dolls. It gives a whole new meaning to the the term “uncanny valley.”

One has been open in Madrid since 2010. http://www.3d-u.com/

That’s right Jim. Japan isn’t pioneering in this field. So it’ll be worth changing the score. http://www.3d-u.es/

Are you thinking of Lot’s wife? Well, yes, you could print with salt — but it would be awful hard on the printer heads.
