Dear readers,

This is a valuable study about supplements and health that I wanted to share with our readers.

American Journal of Managed Care | “Impact of oral nutritional supplementation on hospital outcomes”

The findings say “the use of oral nutritional supplementation decreases length of stay, episode cost, and 30-day readmission risk in the inpatient population of hospitals.”

That’s the conclusion of an eleven-year retrospective study by five senior researchers in health policy and economics.

“Malnutrition is a serious and under-appreciated problem among hospitalized patients,” the researchers note. “Malnourished patients face heightened risks of poor outcomes, including increased length of stay (LOS),1-3 healthcare costs, complication rates, readmission rates, and mortality.”

“This is a major study that should be required reading for all physicians,” said Terry Grossman, MD, who was not involved in the study. “Simply giving supplements was shown to decrease hospitalization length by 21%. Imagine how many billions could be saved with this simple intervention.”

Best,
