First G20 World Brain Mapping & Therapeutic Scientific Summit

October 30, 2014

Building Global Alliance in Brain Mapping & Therapeutics through supporting President Obama’s BRAIN Initiative

The Society for Brain Mapping & Therapeutics (SBMT) including its Australasian Pacific Chapter (SBMTA) and Compumedics Inc, invite you to attend this important scientific summit being held in Brisbane on 13 November 2014.

According to the World Health Organization’s large-scale studies, about a third of the adult worldwide population suffer from a mental disorder such as depression, anxiety and schizophrenia. If also taken together with neurological disorders, such as dementia and stroke, these “disorders of the brain” account for 13% of the global disease burden. This surpasses both cardiovascular diseases (5%) and cancer (10%). Countries with the highest rate included the USA, UK, Russia, and Australia. The time and place of the G20 meeting in Australia this year is the perfect back drop for a scientific summit on all things about brain!

The Summit aims to contribute to President Obama’s BRAIN initiative as well as Europium Human Brain Project and to expand action on the current and upcoming initiatives across the G20 nations. The G20 Ministers, Ambassadors, Science and trade attachés are invited to this unique event. We expect representatives from the SBMT, DARPA, the European Brain Project, industry leaders, leading Australian researchers; G20 scientists and business leaders attend this event.

The Honorable US Congressman Chaka Fattah will be the keynote speaker through video message and will take questions from the Audience and be involved in the summit discussion from 3-4PM local time.

Other video Keynote speakers are:
The Honorable Congressman Blumenaure-Chairman of the Congressional Neuroscience Caucus
The Honorable Kirsty Duncan – Member of the Parliament of Canada.

Specifically, the goals of the program are to:

  • Build solid working collaboration between USA, Australia and other G20 nations on translational clinical neuroscience including all aspects of the Brain Mapping and Therapeutics.
  • Build strategic industry-academia-government alliance for brain discovery, diseases prevention, diagnosis and treatment
  • Facilitate rapid integration translation and commercialization of innovations in this field of Brain Mapping & Therapeutics world wide
  • Launch complementary Brain Mapping initiatives across the G20 nations
  • Facilitate Clinical trial and formulation of joint Institutional Review Board taskforce across G20
