Profound innovation in Society, Economy & Knowledge: Exploring the new paradigm for bringing forth game-changing innovation

Mechanistic models and a deterministic worldview may have worked well for the last centuries, but are not apt for the upcoming challenges we are facing today. Rather, we need completely different concepts and attitudes, accepting that the underlying processes escape our control and are unpredictable. It seems that the concept of “Enabling” is the key to this shift of thinking. Enabling is the art of carefully configuring adequate levers (physical space, networks, resources, etc.) that best support specific innovation processes, such as idea generation, prototyping, market entry, etc..

LIFT@austria | Enable! will be held in Vienna on March 18-20, 2010. The three day convention seeks to bring together people, organizations, and networks to elaborate and work on the question what does the concept of Enabling mean in various contexts and domains of (game-changing) innovation. Doers, Thinkers, Creators, Citizen and Change-makers will explore questions, such as:

  • How are enabling, knowledge creation, and innovation related?
  • What does enabling mean in the context of social innovation/entrepreneurship, and game-changing innovation?
  • Is hip architecture and cool design enough for an enabling work environment?
  • How can we integrate different dimensions of so-called enabling spaces, such as a social space, an emotional space, a cultural space, a technological space and of course a physical space?
  • Can the so-called Creative Economy enable the Old Economy through meta-enablers such as innovation labs, creative clusters, consulting networks, or media co-ops?

Co-create the convention, either as a speaker or as you suggest a speaker! Deadline for submissions is January 17, 2010.

The conference will introduce novel formats to stimulate interaction, learning and the creation of new knowledge in a highly interdisciplinary setting.
