Roland Emmerich has pushed bad science to its limit before, most notably with the amazing 2012. But for his upcoming movie Singularity, he’s actually enlisting the help of Ray Kurzweil, author of The Singularity is Near, to help him revise the script.

On the one hand, this means the movie will accurately reflect Kurzweil’s theories about a magical transformation in which everything becomes awesome thanks to A.I. and other breakthroughs. On the other hand… will the result actually be moreunrealistic than 2012Variety reports that Kurzweil is joining Emmerich and his cowriter Harald Kloser to revise the script for Singularity — and pre-production on the movie has been put on hold while the three men work out the kinks in the script.

Reading between the lines, it sounds as though Sony, the studio producing the film, was unhappy with the current script draft and sent Emmerich back to the drawing board. Sony remains committed to the project, after how much money Emmerich made them with 2012, and it’s still probably going to make its May 2013 target release date. […]
