Dr. Cheryl Martin, Acting Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E), will discuss the energy innovation ecosystem and ARPA-E’s role in advancing high-potential, high-impact energy technologies to create a more secure and affordable American future.  Dr. Martin will highlight the Agency’s existing portfolio of technologies and discuss how the Agency works to advance projects beyond ARPA-E funding.  Finally, Dr. Martin will share some examples of how the Agency’s Tech-to-Market strategies have fostered early, yet tangible technical and market successes.

Dr. Cheryl Martin, Acting Director, ARPA-E

Dr. Cheryl Martin is the Acting Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) at the United States Department of Energy and is responsible for oversight of the Agency. Additionally, Dr. Martin leads ARPA-E’s Technology-to-Market program, which helps breakthrough energy technologies succeed in the marketplace. Prior to joining ARPA-E, Dr. Martin was an Executive in Residence with the venture capital firm, Kleiner Perkins.

Dr. Martin also spent 20 years with Rohm and Haas Company, starting her career as a Senior Scientist for the company’s Plastics Additives business. In 2000, Dr. Martin was named Director of Investor Relations and later became Director of Financial Planning.  Dr. Martin was named General Manager of the company’s Adhesives and Sealants business in North America in 2007 and elected a Corporate Vice President. Most recently, she was the General Manager for the Paint and Coatings Materials business in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Dr. Martin earned a B.A. in chemistry from the College of the Holy Cross and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
