At Cipriani, 25 Broadway, two distinguished speakers, Frances Karamouzis of Gartner and Andrew McAfee of MIT, will discuss the dramatic changes to business operations hailed by cognitive technologies.

Andrew McAfee, Principal Research Scientist, MIT

Andrew McAfee is currently a principal research scientist at the Center for Digital Business in the MIT Sloan School of Management. His research investigates how IT changes the way companies perform, organize themselves and compete. At a higher level, his work also investigates how computerization affects competition, society, the economy, and the workforce.

He is the coauthor, together with Erik Brynjolfsson, of the New York Times bestselling book “The Second Machine Age: Work, Progress, and Prosperity in a Time of Brilliant Technologies”, which outlines how digital technologies are transforming our economies and placing society on the cusp of a dramatically different world. It followed hot on the heels of the success of their first book: “Race Against the Machine: How the Digital Revolution is Accelerating Innovation, Driving Productivity and Irreversibly Transforming Employment and the Economy.”

Before joining MIT, McAfee was a professor at Harvard Business School and a fellow at Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society. He received his Doctorate from Harvard Business School, and completed two Master of Science and two Bachelor of Science degrees at MIT.

McAfee is regularly quoted by business media and his articles have been published in Forbes, Financial Times and Washington Post. At IPsoft’s Meet Amelia event, Mr. McAfee’s will discuss driving business in the 2nd Machine Age.

Paul Daugherty, Chief Technology Officer, Accenture

Paul Daugherty is Accenture’s chief technology officer and leads the company’s Technology Innovation & Ecosystem group. He is also a member of Accentur’s Global Management Committee.

In addition to overseeing Accenture’s technology strategy, Mr. Daugherty has responsibility for driving innovation through R&D activities in Accenture’s Technology Labs; maximizing value from the fast-changing and dynamic technology ecosystem; and leveraging emerging technologies to bring the newest innovations to clients globally. He also leads the company’s highly skilled, certified technology architects, who apply new technologies and architectural foundations in building solutions for clients across industries. In addition, Mr. Daugherty is responsible for managing Accenture’s alliances, partnerships and senior-level relationships with leading and emerging technology companies, and runs Accenture’s CIO Council of more than 200 global CIOs.

Before being named chief technology officer in 2012, Mr. Daugherty was Accenture’s chief technology architect, leading more than 17,000 professionals globally who focused on advanced technology solutions. Previously, Mr. Daugherty founded Accenture’s cloud computing business, and led Accenture’s technology business globally for the Resources operating group. He also was instrumental in founding Accenture’s SaaS, big data and open source businesses, and played a key role in the company’s technology business during the major transitions to client/server computing and internet-based computing.

Mr. Daugherty serves as chairman of the board of Avanade, a joint venture of Accenture and Microsoft. He is also on the board of directors for Accenture Global Services Limited.

Mr. Daugherty is a frequent speaker at conferences on industry and technology issues, and has published articles in a variety of publications. He serves on the board of trustees of the Computer History Museum and on the CIO Advisory Board for NPower, which provides IT services to non-profit organizations. Mr. Daugherty also helped found the Advisory Board of the Academy of Information Technology, a non-profit that works to increase IT career opportunities for urban youths.

Mr. Daugherty joined Accenture in 1986 and became a partner in 1999. He earned his bachelor of science degree in computer engineering from the University of Michigan.

Frances Karamouzis, Vice President and Distinguished Analyst, Gartner

Frances Karamouzis is a Vice President and Distinguished Analyst in Gartner’s Research Advisory Group, focusing on strategic sourcing of IT services.

With 25 years of experience in the industry, she is the lead North American research analyst for enterprise sourcing strategies and Gartner’s Globalization of IT Sourcing (offshore) research team. She focuses on market trends and directions, financial modeling of business cases, and service delivery capabilities of the consulting and outsourcing providers. Beyond her own published research for Gartner, she has appeared in or contributed to reports showcased on 60 Minutes, CNN, CNBC, PBS, Business Week, Forbes, and the Council on Foreign Relations, and she has provided direct research to Tom Friedman’s “The World Is Flat.”

At IPsoft’s Meet Amelia event, Frances Karamouzis will discuss the dramatic shift cognitive platforms will effect in IT sourcing.

Jon Sopel, BBC’s North American Editor

Jon Sopel is the BBC’s North American Editor, the most senior foreign posting in the BBC, a role he took up in September 2014. Prior to that he presented BBC World’s flagship news programme, Global with Jon Sopel, which was launched in January 2013. He was also nominated that year by the Royal Television Society as Presenter of the Year. For many years he presented the BBC’s weekend political discussion programme, the Politics Show, interviewing all the major figures on the national stage. In 2007 he was voted political journalist of the year.

He has been a senior presenter on the BBC News Channel and has anchored coverage from around the world of major global events; the funeral of Nelson Mandela, the inauguration of the new Pope, countless presidential elections, wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East, and a number of natural disasters. Before becoming a full time presenter, Jon was the BBC’s Paris correspondent and before moving abroad he was the BBC’s chief political correspondent at Westminster, during which time he wrote an acclaimed biography of Tony Blair.

He is an ambassador of Prince Charles’ Prince’s Trust, and a trustee of the Citizenship Foundation.
