Because Mars’ interior has cooled solid, it no longer has an electromagnetic field (like it probably once had eons ago) to protect an atmosphere from being blasted away by solar winds.

Yes, and it’s one of the reasons that I think core enrichment would be desirable if we really want to terraform.
I prefer Star Trek.
That was actually pretty interesting to watch…maybe one day something like it will be possible and Mars will be capable of sustaining life again.
