Vernor Vinge

Vernor Vinge sold his first science fiction story in 1964. He is best known for “True Names”, Marooned in Realtime, A Fire Upon the Deep, and A Deepness in the Sky. The last two novels each won the Hugo Award for best science fiction novel of the year.

Vinge received a PhD (Math) from the University of California. From 1972 to 2000 he taught in the Department of Math and CS at San Diego State University. He has now retired from SDSU in order to write science fiction full time.
